Drama Classes and Competitions Online during Lockdown
In 2020-21 when our students were in lockdown we found creative ways to keep our students engaged with our lockdown drama classes online and competitions. We were ready for online classes before the first lockdown began and met with students every day during the lockdown. We managed to keep their normal weekly class as 'normal' as possible. To our surprise we found that so much of what we do is transferrable online and even enhanced by students being able to see themselves. It was a challenging time for all families -we are parents ourselves, and totally understand the challenges that lockdown and online learning brings.
Our mission during lockdown - was to have fun with our students and bring some joy to their every day lockdown lives. Lockdown is a great time for new students to try Ten Feet Tall classes.
To create some respite for families we ran lockdown drama classes online and competitions with prizes! Not only were students having their weekly online classes with us they were also engaged and working on their own creative entries. Students had enough information to be clear about what to do in each task with plenty of scope for using their imagination, creativity and knowledge gained in our classes. And of course, like any parent in lockdown trying to do it all -Parents were super happy for have some fun projects for their children to work on. Our students worked on character performances, mimed performances, costume design competitions and our junior students worked on a piece of their choice.
To our surprise, we had a number of entries and found some willing professionals to watch the videos submitted and adjudicate the competition. Each student received individual feedback and a certificate. Our winner in each category received a voucher from a shop of their choosing.
It's a legacy we have happily adopted and every year we are now running online classes with competitions and activities in the holidays - the focus is to help our students embed the learning, get them thinking about how to create a performing for an online audience using the things they have at home. Our 2021 Online Competition will be December/January. For more information please contact us here.
