Programme Overview
MONDAY — PLAY IN A DAY
Act • Create • Perform
Become a character and bring a much-loved story to life!
Children will spend the day exploring characters, scenes and key moments from the story through drama games, improvisation and acting activities. They'll experiment with voices, movement and characterisation before working together to create and rehearse their own mini version of the story.
The focus isn't on memorising lots of lines — it's on imagination, confidence, teamwork and the fun of performing.
Week 1: MATILDA
Step into the wonderfully mischievous world of Matilda. Create larger-than-life characters, explore some of the story's funniest moments and discover what happens when children take centre stage!
Week 2: THE GRUFFALO
Journey through the deep, dark wood! Become Mouse, Fox, Owl, Snake — or even the Gruffalo himself — as we use voice, movement and imagination to bring this much-loved story to life.
Great for: children who love acting, dressing up, stories and imaginative play — and those who'd like to become more confident performing in front of others.
TUESDAY — SPEAK UP!
Speak • Think • Persuade
Public speaking without the boring bits!
Through games, challenges and mini speaking activities, children learn how to stand tall, speak clearly, organise their ideas and capture an audience's attention.
There are no long speeches to memorise. Instead, children will tackle fun individual and team challenges, practise speaking on the spot and discover techniques they can take straight back to the classroom.
Week 1: BECOME AN EXPERT
Could you convince an audience you're an expert on dinosaurs, chocolate, Minecraft, space — or something completely ridiculous? Children learn how to structure ideas, explain information and speak with authority before taking on our Expert Challenge.
Week 2: BIG IDEAS
If you could invent something, change a school rule or solve a problem in the world, what would you do? Children develop their own Big Idea and learn how to persuade others to get behind it.
Great for: building confidence for classroom speaking, speeches, presentations and sharing ideas in front of a group.
WEDNESDAY — MAGICAL STORYTELLERS
Imagine • Tell • Perform
Great storytellers don't just tell us what happened — they make us feel as though we're there.
Children will explore how to create memorable characters, exciting settings and stories that keep an audience listening. Through drama, improvisation, voice work and storytelling games, they'll experiment with expression, character voices, movement, suspense and imagination.
Then they'll put those skills together to create and perform stories of their own.
Week 2: PETER PAN
Fly away to Neverland for a day of pirates, Lost Boys, fairies and adventure! Children will explore the characters and world of Peter Pan before creating their own Neverland-inspired stories and scenes.
Great for: imaginative children, reluctant writers, enthusiastic storytellers and anyone who wants to become a more expressive and engaging communicator.
THURSDAY — HOMEGROWN THEATRE
Create • Collaborate • Perform
Their ideas. Their characters. Their show.
There is no script waiting for them when they arrive — because they're going to create it!
Starting with drama games and creative challenges, the group will invent characters, develop a storyline and turn their ideas into an original mini-production.
Along the way they'll learn how performers build scenes, develop characters, make creative decisions, solve problems and work together as an ensemble. By the end of the day, their ideas have become something they can actually perform.
Every group creates something completely different.
Great for: creative thinkers, budding actors and children who love making things up — while developing collaboration, confidence and communication skills.
FRIDAY — IMPROV & COMEDY
Think Fast • Be Brave • Make Them Laugh
No scripts. No memorising. No time to overthink!
Friday is fast, funny and packed with improvisation.
Children will take on hilarious theatre games, unexpected scenarios, crazy characters and quick-thinking challenges where absolutely anything can happen.
They'll learn one of the most valuable communication skills of all: how to think on their feet.
Improv also teaches children to listen, respond, accept other people's ideas, take creative risks and recover when things don't go exactly to plan — all while having an enormous amount of fun.
Expect lots of laughter, ridiculous situations and some wonderfully unexpected performances.
Great for: confidence, spontaneity, creativity, teamwork and children who love making people laugh.
ACT • SPEAK • TELL • CREATE • IMPROVISE
Choose one day or join us for several — every day develops a different communication and performance skill.

Students create characters and scenes on the spot, develop ideas as a team and learn to listen, respond, adapt and perform without a script.
These skills go beyond the stage — students practise thinking on their feet, contributing ideas, working with others and having the confidence to speak up.
No experience needed. Beginners are supported to join in at their own pace, while experienced performers are challenged to take their improvisation and performance skills further.

LEARN. DEBATE. IMPROVE.
Two action-packed days where students learn to debate, compete, receive expert feedback and go again.
Students develop skills in argument building, rebuttal, persuasive speaking, teamwork, strategy and thinking under pressure — then put them straight into action in live debate rounds.
After each debate, coaches break down what worked, what could be stronger and how to improve before the next round.
Learn the skill. Use it under pressure. Get feedback. Go again.
Suitable for everyone from first-time debaters to experienced students, including those already participating in Auckland Schools Debating. Students are grouped by age and experience and coached at the right level.
Who will build the strongest case? Who will find the killer rebuttal? Who will take out The Great Debate?
